The South Carolina Supreme Court has issued an order of execution for Marion Bowman Jr., who has been on death row since 2002 for the 2001 murder of 21-year-old Kandee Martin. Bowman, 44, is scheduled to be executed Friday, Jan. 31, at the Broad River Correctional Complex in Columbia. He would become the third inmate put to death since the state resumed executions this past September. Bowman was convicted for the February 2001 murder of Martin in Dorchester County.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office ensured younger deputies with small children could spend Christmas Day at home with their families. Sheriff Sam Richardson said that higher-ranking officers and those without young children volunteered to work, which reflects the department’s commitment to supporting its officers' family lives. “Christmas involves family and those precious moments when little ones wake up and see their gifts,” Richardson said.

Anti-Defamation League (ADL) released its 2023 audit of antisemitic incidents. Nationwide, these incidences rose 140% from 2022 to 2023. South Carolina reported a 93% increase in the number of antisemitic incidents year over year. According to the audit’s executive summary, antisemitic incidents nationwide increased in all major Audit categories. Assault incidents increased by 45% to 161 incidents, vandalism increased by 69% to 2,177 incidents, and harassment increased by 184% to 6,535 incidents.

A collision on Saturday, Nov. 23, involving a bicyclist and two motorcycles on South Pointe Boulevard in Summerville has left one person seriously injured and led to the arrest of a woman on multiple charges. At approximately 1:25 p.m., officers from the Summerville Police Department responded to the crash scene. Upon arrival, they found an unoccupied van in a ditch, later identified as stolen from a nearby construction site earlier that day.
