Advocates for deaf and hard of hearing Hoosiers said budget cuts at the Indiana School for the Deaf are becoming a crisis. The school received a 5 percent cut in the new state budget and recently laid off more than a dozen staff. The School for the Deaf already had more than three dozen open, unfilled staff positions. And the state is exploring limits to school maintenance that would force teachers and staff to clean hallways, stairwells and classrooms.

Attorney General Todd Rokita announced Monday that 55 attorneys general have agreed to a settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners, the Sackler family.

More than 700 organizations and individuals signed a letter calling on Gov. Mike Braun to convene a commission to address Indiana’s housing crisis. Advocates said they hope it can become a “signature issue” for Braun. Andrew Bradley, Prosperity Indiana senior director of policy and strategy, said Braun has the opportunity to “break a logjam” in the state’s housing policy that he said has existed for decades.
