TULSA, Okla. — We'll have clearing skies tonight with the low in Tulsa down to 22°. North winds 5-10 mph. Sunny on Monday and reaching 50°. West winds 5-15 mph. Mostly sunny on Tuesday. Lows around 30° with highs nearing 60°. Partly cloudy on Wednesday with a slight chance for rain showers. The best chance will be in the afternoon and evening hours. The morning will start out in the upper 30s with highs in the 50s. Some heavy rains will move through on Thursday. Lows near 40° with highs in the 50s.
International conference comes to Tulsa showcasing weather drones

TULSA, OKLA. — Scientists are using drones more and more to save lives in severe weather and will be able to help gather timely data that can lead to more accurate forecasts in the future. Since last week, The International Society for Atmospheric Research Using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Conference has been at Oklahoma State University in Tulsa. The conference continues through this week, which is called Flight Week.
Active storm season quickly depleting FEMA funds

TULSA, Okla. — It was a horrible destructive tornado season across the nation. With half the year left, FEMA could come close to running out of funds. Over the spring, according to the Storm Prediction Center, we saw the second most amount of tornadoes on record since records started in 1950. Also, they said that more than 780 tornadoes were confirmed in April and May.
Checking in on the Porter peach crop

PORTER, Okla. — 2 News went out to Livesay Orchards in Porter today to check on the peach crop. The Mesonet weather station in Porter dropped to 34° early this morning. So far so good, but then there's Wednesday morning. Despite some cold temperatures early this spring, the crop is doing quite well. I talked to Kent Livesay and he told me temperatures would have to get down into the 20's for his crop to be impacted.

TULSA, OKLA. — Saturday, October 15th is the Annular Solar Eclipse. A solar eclipse is when the moon passes in front of the sun. What does annular mean? It means ring-shaped. "The moon's apparent size is not quite large enough to completely cover the sun so what we'll have is the disk of the moon surrounded what looks like a ring of fire," said Molly Wasser, part of the NASA Planetary Science division in Washington, D.C.In our area, we won't see the entire eclipse, only a partial one.
Monarch Butterfly migration underway in Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla. — You might have seen a lot of Monarch Butterflies lately in the state of Oklahoma. That's because they're migrating south to Mexico to find warmer temperatures. But it's still warm here, so there are plenty of monarchs. Check out the picture below of them recently roosting in Nowata County, Oklahoma. But that's all going to change soon with an incoming cold front.
PSO Relief Grants

TULSA, Okla. — It's been more than two months since the Father's Day windstorm. Now PSO and its parent company, AEP, are getting the word out about relief grants. They announced grants totaling $125,000 to help people dealing with the impact from the massive Father's Day derecho. The AEP Foundation made a donation of $75,000 to the Windstorm Relief Fund. The fund is in partnership with the Tulsa Area United Way and Tulsa Community Foundation. It has now grown to around $800,000 thanks to local donors.
Surveying hurricanes with air and sea drones

TULSA, Okla. — The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA will be using drones in the air and in the water this hurricane season. They've been testing drones in the air since 2020 and became operational when the Hurricane Hunters did a drone mission last September. "We did it in cat [category] 5 Hurricane Ian. It had dramatic data collection results. It did phenomenally well," said Commander Adam Abitbol who is a NOAA Hurricane Hunter pilot.
