    LAMONI, Iowa — A couple rounds of rain and storms rumbled through central Iowa on Thursday, but it was primarily boom or bust on the totals front. Des Moines fell into the "bust" side of things receiving just a trace of rain. We are now two-thirds of the way through September and Des Moines has totaled a trace of rain for the entire month. And even though the ‘boom’ numbers were not overly impressive, it was a comfortable 1”+ soak for areas that need it.

    This Afternoon: A mix of sun and clouds with a windy southeast wind at 10-20 mph. Highs top a bit warmer than yesterday in the low 60s northeast to upper 60s southwest. Tonight: Clouds roll in with rain and thunderstorms moving from west to east as we head towards daybreak. These storms are not expected to be severe. The wind continues to be elevated overnight from the southeast at 10-20 mph as temperatures drop into the 40s.

Tonight: Skies become mostly clear as temps dip into the mid-to-upper 30s. What begins as a breezy night, quiets down to around 5 mph towards daybreak, which would aid in some frost development. Wednesday: A break from the wind! Sunny skies abound with a northeast wind of only 5-10 mph.

This time the wind streams from the south at 10-20 mph, gusting to 30.

Meanwhile, highs top cooler than yesterday in the low-to-mid 60s. Tonight: Showers moving east wind down as skies begin to clear towards daybreak. Looking for a break from the wind? Not tonight! It continues to gust from the northwest at 35 mph. Lows are mild as they settle into the upper 30s to low 40s.
