The StarThe Dunedin Midwinter Carnival team has transformed the Meridian Mall with an array of twinkling lantern displays. The annual glow-up of the Meridian, which has been a staunch supporter of the Dunedin Midwinter Carnival for many years, gives the public a chance to get an early taste of the carnival, which will be held on June 27-28, from 4pm-9pm, at First Church.

The StarHundreds of workers constructing the new Dunedin Hospital outpatients building are receiving on-site health support, including stop-smoking services. Overseeing and providing pastoral care for the more than 240 workers at the site, many from outside Dunedin and some from overseas, is Workforce Central Dunedin operations manager Raymond Clark.

The StarGlorious blue sky makes the perfect backdrop to Cargill’s Castle, as work to strengthen and stabilise the tower and outer walls continues this week. The Star visited the castle ruin on Monday with Cargill’s Castle Trust members to observe engineers carefully drilling bolt-holes in the tower walls, while suspended from a crane.

The StarA Dunedin group dedicated to preserving the city’s military history is delighted with a major aspect of the refurbished KiwiRail Hillside Workshops site in South Dunedin. The refurbished site, which was officially reopened last week by deputy prime minister Winston Peters, includes an impressive war memorial and memorial park.
