    Fresh produce, local food providers and community art took the spotlight as the Waterdown Farmers' Market kicked off its 12th season Saturday morning. Vendors, organizers, sponsors students, volunteers and visitors gathered to salute Flamborough's deep agricultural roots during the kickoff, which featured performances by the WDHS Concert Band, CBY Performing Arts Academy and Waterdown Music Academy. The Flamborough Horticultural Society was also on hand for the fun, with their annual plant sale.

    Carlisle United Church is gearing up for a pair of community events this spring. The grill will be hopping at the Centre Road Church, as volunteers cook up the goods for the annual Drive Thru Chicken Dinner on Saturday, May 31. The meal is a full spread, with barbecue chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, a roll and brownies. Dinners are available in either half-chicken ($27) or quarter-chicken ($21) portions. All products are Canadian.
