INTRODUCTION Longitudinal studies provide the historical depth required to understand how organisms respond to environmental fluctuations, climate change, social and demographic processes (Clutton-Brock & Sheldon, 2010; Magnuson, 1990). Movement patterns, in particular, illuminate how animals interact with each other and their environments over time, permitting investigation of important ecological processes like gene flow, disease transmission, species distributions, and community dynamics.
