E2730 demonstrated powerful anti-seizure effects in the kainic acid status epilepticus (KASE) rat model of chronic drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE), with a high proportion of animals being rendered seizure-free. E2730 treatment reduced brain taurine levels measured by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in KASE and control rats, whereas [18F]Flumazenil positron emission tomography (PET) imaging revealed no changes in γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor binding.
