Three seasons later, after two fruitless seasons without playoff trips, the Wolves are third in the AHL’s Central Division and have already locked up a playoff spot. That’s right, it’s almost time for spring, and with spring comes outdoor sporting events. The same is true for Northwestern cross country, which fully “sprung” into its outdoor schedule in East Lansing on Friday. The Spartan Invitational was mostly smaller Michigan schools, but the Wildcats did get to battle with Big Ten rivals Michigan and Michigan State.

I’m aware I missed a lot of great action, but I’m going to primarily focus on the last week and treat this as a normal column. And my goodness, has there been a lot of action. The top three are still the top three, and after North Carolina’s 15-12 victory over Northwestern, that upper echelon has been whittled down to two teams.

On both the men’s and women’s sides, the Big Ten tournament is just over three weeks away. However, the stretch run continues to toss tough foes at the Wildcats, including a top-20 opponent for both squads. The win-loss column may not show it, but this weekend should still provide a lot of positives when looking ahead.
