A handful of the world’s top senior elite figure skaters will kick off the winter sports season this weekend. The 2024-25 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating will begin its six-leg circuit with 2024 Skate America at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. From October 18-20, medals will be awarded in men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs and ice dance, and skaters will be awarded points toward qualifying for the ultimate event, the 2024-25 ISU Grand Prix final.

As the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games winds down, it’s time for Team USA’s winter sports athletes to begin their trek towards qualifying for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. It has been a busy year for Team USA’s summer extreme sports Olympians as several of them competed in their third major event in a single calendar year. Following up appearances at X Games Ventura 2024 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, several American athletes traveled to Chiba, Japan to compete at X Games Chiba 2024. First held in 1995, the summer X Games is the biggest non-Olympic event for professional skateboarders and BMX cyclists.

SAINT-DENIS, Frane – Hunter Woodhall powered down the final straight with fire and determination to overtake defending champion Johannes Floors and win gold in the men's 400-meter T63 event. Woodhall clocked 46.36 seconds to defeat the German athlete by a substantial 0.54 second margin. It was a first Paralympic title for the 25-year-old double amputee Woodhall, after he ran to bronze medals at both the Tokyo 2020 and Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games in his preferred event.

If anyone asks how Liana Mutia feels about being the world’s No. 1 ranked women’s -57 kg. J1 Para judo athlete, she would tell you the same thing. “I’m not an athlete.”Yet, her results on the tatami inside Champ de Mars Arena tell a different story. On a rainy Thursday in Paris, Mutia battled her way into the gold-medal match, and will be leaving her second Paralympic Games with a silver medal. Manifestation works. Before first-time Paralympian Noelle Malkamaki stepped foot into the shot put ring at Stade de France, she already held the world record in the women’s shot put F46. However, that wasn’t good enough for the Decatur, Illinois, native. She wanted more. “I want to push that record so far out there that nobody can touch it,” she said before her debut. So far, so good.

Lakeville, Minnesota’s Ian Seidenfeld knows nothing but podium finishes early into his Para Table Tennis career at the Paralympic Games. In front of a roaring crowd that used the metal bleachers for their drum sets, Seidenfeld battled Italy’s Matteo Parenzan for a spot in the gold-medal match later tonight. However, it just wasn’t the 23-year-old’s cards this time as he fell, three sets to zero, to take home the bronze medal in the men’s singles MS6 classification.
