They add a dressy touch without sacrificing comfort. One of my favorite places to shop for said pull-on pants is at Everlane. The brand’s spring sale is happening right now, and select pieces are up to 70 percent off. Yes, you read that right.

Photo-Illustration: Courtesy of the retailers. One thing I’ve learned after years of shopping with my cost-conscious mother: You don’t have to spend a ton on a gift to make someone feel special. Guided by her wisdom, I’ve put together a diverse list of gift ideas under $50 for all the maternal figures in your life, from mothers-in-law and new moms to grandmas and more.

The Strategist’s Two-Day Sale ends tonight, and if there’s any one deal I suggest grabbing before it does, it’s the Lands’ End versatile canvas tote. Writer Brenley Goertzen recently named the tote one of the very best beach bags thanks to its water-repellent base, sturdy structure (that keeps it standing upright even in sand), and easy-access pockets (five of them, to be exact). But the bag also makes a great travel bag, whether as a weekend tote or a personal item on flights.

Pull-on pants — from satin-y Reformation ones to Brooke Callahan’s side-tie pairs — have had something of a moment over the past year or so, but in my family, they’ve been the preferred style for much longer than that. My mom, who was a rhythmic gymnast and dancer, had dozens of ’90s track pants and joggers with stretchy waistbands — so to me, anything similar was not only cool but truly practical. Still, pull-on pants have their detractors.
