    Bryant Mayor Chris Treat opened the first meeting of the Municipal Funding Committee on Thursday night by saying the issues to be addressed by the group are “the key issues for setting this city up for the future. This is not an exaggeration or hyperbole.” He went on to say that “in 2035 or 2040, we don’t want to wish we made better decisions ten years ago. If we get these three things right (stormwater utility, street funding, police and fire pensions), it will be a big step for the future.

    One of the oldest companies in Waterloo Region intends to merge with another insurer. Gore Mutual Insurance Company, headquartered in Cambridge overlooking Soper Park, intends to merge with Beneva, the companies announced Tuesday. The merger, under the Beneva brand, would make Beneva the 10th largest property and casualty insurer in Canada, a release said.
