Hornets Boys Tennis Team Taken Down By Trenton In District Finals

The Chillicothe Hornets boys team competed in Class 1 District 15 tournament in Trenton. The Hornets won their semifinal matchup against Carrollton 5-0. All three Hornets doubles teams earned the victory, Collins and Adams, Trantham and Snider as well as Carpenter and Swearingen. Chillicothe only needed two singles wins to claim the match.

Gregory Michael Anderson, age 54, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away from a heart attack on Monday, May 6, 2024, at his home in Chillicothe, Missouri. Greg was born the son of John Michael “Mike” and Carol Sue (Brobst) Anderson on August 24, 1969, in Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a 1987 graduate of Chillicothe High School. He worked as a tire repairer and salesman for his family’s business, Anderson TBA. Greg was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

Gale “Kitty” Snider 77, of Chillicothe MO. passed away on Monday May 6, 2024 at her home in Chillicothe. She was born on September 30th 1946 in Chillicothe, MO. Gale was a proud member of the Freedom of Road Riders and served as treasurer for several years. “Kitty” also enjoyed sewing and working on quilts. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children and their families.
Hornets Golf Qualifies One Athlete For State At District Tournament

The Chillicothe Hornets boys golf team competed in the Class 3 District 4 golf tournament at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville. Chillicothe was one of 16 teams competing for two spots in the state finals for complete teams, along with the top 10 individual golfers whose team did not advance. The Hornets who have had an historic season, finished in 5th place at districts with a score of 346. Summit Christian Academy and Barstow advanced with a 308 and 312 respectively.
Hornets Baseball Regular Season Comes To An End At St. Pius

The Chillicothe Hornets baseball team traveled to Kansas City on Tuesday night to take on St. Pius in the regular season finale. St. Pius scored a run in the first inning and three in the second to go up 4-0. The Warriors controlled the game from there, but Chillicothe scored a run in the fifth inning when Sammy Rodenberg hit a double, leading to a Jack Marshall RBI scoring Oliver Perry.
Chillicothe Hornets Tennis Doubles Team Wins Individual Districts

The Hornets tennis team found great success at the individual district tournament. In the 8 team bracket, the Hornets top doubles team of Josh Adams and Jadon Collins defeated Carrollton in the championship 6-0, 6-2. Doubles team Eli Carpenter and Quincy Swearingen finished 4th. In singles, Chillicothe’s Tony Trantham placed 2nd falling in the finals to Trenton’s Braden Sager, while Andrew Snider followed right behind, in 3rd place.

The Chillicothe Hornets hosted the Class 3 District 4 track and field meet on Saturday. There were 11 girls teams and 12 boys teams in attendance. Chillicothe’s boys team took first place with 147 points and the girls team finished in 2nd behind Centralia with 95 points. Several athletes and relay teams for Chillicothe are advancing on to sectionals. For the girls, Kayanna Cranmer placed with a 3rd place finish in the 400.

Melvin Harris Littrell, age 91, a resident of Chillicothe, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at the Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri. Melvin was born the son of Buel and Edna (Colton) Littrell on June 19, 1932, in Wheeling, Missouri. He was a 1950 graduate of Wheeling High School. He also attended the Chillicothe Business College and Central Missouri College in Warrensburg. He served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1954 during the Korean War.

Chillicothe traveled to Cameron on Tuesday night to take on the Lady Dragons. Chillicothe had defeated Cameron by a score of 3-1 just two weeks prior, and we’re looking to get the regular season sweep. Chillicothe started as well as they could’ve hoped, scoring a goal inside the first 30 seconds, Avery Baxter booted a long ball forward to Alice Hurtgen, who touched it around the goalkeeper and scored to give Chillicothe a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the game.
Dark Sky Stargazing Event

A free Dark Sky stargazing event will be held May 11th in Carroll County. The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting the event at Little Compton Lake Conservation Area, starting at 5:00 pm and continuing until 10:30 pm. MDC staff will offer fishing and archery instruction with gear provided prior to a dinner break and nightfall.
