    The annual Roots Community Food Centre market began on Wednesday with produce grown at the Lillie Street site. “The market is a very exciting time for us because we’re working the garden everyday,” said Madisyn Owen, who is the program facilitator. The produce for sale is grown at the two-acre site in Thunder Bay. The program, run by Roots Community Food Centre, teaches young adults how to grow, weed and cultivate produce. And the market provides valuable interactions with the public as well.

    Thunder Bay police are looking to the public to help identify the motorist who they claim sped away from an attempted traffic stop and sped though a construction zone. Police and the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario were conducting enforcement on Dawson Road on Tuesday after 4:40 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a motorist in a Ford F150 pickup truck.

    A program between Roots Community Food Centre and Lakehead Public Schools offers youth hands-on work experience along with gardening and life skills. The annual program is for youths going into grades 11 and 12, offering 12 spots to students attending Lakehead Public Schools. The Urban Youth Farm Program is the foundational program of Roots Community Food Centre and was the first program that started working with high-school aged youths between 16 and 18, going into grades 11 or 12.
