Concerning events resulting from climate change are ubiquitous. Over 61 000 heat-related excess deaths occurred in Europe in the summer of 2022.By a substantial margin, 2023 was the warmest year on record, and the oceans, which contain 90% of Earth's excess heat, are at record-high temperatures. Wildfires are increasing in many places, due at least in part to heat and drought.

It is time for the AAN to acknowledge and act on the effects of climate change on brain health. We are writing to encourage neurologists to sign our letter urging AAN action. With AAN support, more neurologists will learn about the relationship between climate change and neurologic disease, and neurologists will be better able to promote neurologic health in the US and abroad. Wildfire smoke, air pollution and record heat are top news headlines in recent weeks.
