Tariffs on semiconductors would deter foreign investment, hinder onshoring efforts and ultimately weaken U.S. national security, foreign governments and companies based abroad told the Commerce Department this month. Commerce in April launched an investigation into the national security implications of semiconductor imports under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. Stakeholder comments were due on May 8; Commerce published the responses it received this week.
