A series loss in New York to a division-leading Mets team is not the end of the world. You hate that it comes just after a relatively rough week, but this was always a possibility. At least the Cubs won one, and now the schedule lets up considerably. The Cubs twice tied this one up late, and the Mets twice took the lead right back. And then they pushed it even further in the 8th, turning a tight pitcher’s duel into something much less enjoyable. Happy Mother’s Day?

With a one-run lead in the 9th, walking the leadoff hitter ahead of Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso is like having to jump the Grand Canyon with a transport of your choosing, and then asking to do it with roller blades. But Porter Hodge is a roller-blade-lovin’ bad man. A Lindor double-play and a Soto groundout later, and the game ended with Alonso standing there watching.
