It was a week and a half before President Trump returned to office, and his hostility toward scientific endeavors hung in the air. But his name was not uttered once by the panelists or by audience members who asked questions.

No one is more optimistic about technology than Ray Kurzweil. He is a computer scientist and inventor who has been predicting for decades that artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence by 2029. Recent developments in chatbots (or “large language models”) and other AI tools have only strengthened his conviction.
