Buffalo is the Dyngus Day capital of the world for a reason. Like many holidays (Dyngus Day is a traditional Polish holiday), we take our celebrations seriously here. The citywide cultural party is a joyful celebration of Polish-American culture that happens every year on Easter Monday. Originally, Dyngus Day marked the end of Lent and was a day for celebration, flirtation and fun. In Poland, boys would sprinkle girls with water and gently whip them with pussy willows as a way of showing affection.
