The Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats’ softball team is ready to get back at it on the dirt as they start the second part of their season with three games this week, including a 13th district showdown hosting the Logan County Cougars, followed by a game being played at the WKU Softball Complex in Bowling Green against the Westmoreland (TN) Lady Eagles. The Lady Cats started off the season by winning five of their first six games but then the injuries started mounting.

The Franklin-Simpson Wildcats’ baseball team had a successful spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.The Wildcats play annually at the Cal Ripken Experience, where they play games on baseball fields that are tailored after legendary ballparks of the past. Franklin-Simpson had a successful trip as they won four out of five games.

The Logan County Lady Cougars’ softball team dug themselves into a hole that they nearly recovered from but fell short in their 6-5 loss to the Franklin-Simpson Lady Cats on Tuesday at the F-S Soccer and Softball Complex. “We dug too big of a hole to get out of and we’re still learning how to get out of those,” Lady Cougars’ head coach Gary Gettings said. “Addie (Cartas) pitched a heck of a game. Franklin got a lead and she held them there. That gave us a chance to get back in it.

Franklin-Simpson The Lady Cats could not take advantage of runners in scoring position when they had the opportunity to do so and suffered their third straight loss to a team from the 15th District as they were shutout for the first time this season, 9-0, by the Barren County Trojanettes at Barren County High School. Kloie Smith took the loss as she threw four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and walking two batters.

Franklin-Simpson The Lady Cats led early but couldn’t sustain their momentum as the Warren East Lady Raiders came from behind to defeat the Lady Cats 10-4 on March 31 at Phil Burkeen Field. Hester Blanckenberg took the loss as she threw three innings, allowing six unearned runs on eight hits with a strikeout. The Lady Cats jumped out quickly at the top of the first inning.
