The Panda beat the Sandworms! Kung Fu Panda 4 grossed over $58 million in its opening weekend and beat Dune: Part 2 that held onto second with $46 million. Of course, at about one-half the length of Dune, Panda was able to squeeze in more screenings as well as being a much more family oriented release. The domestic box office is trending well below last year at this time. In the first 13 weeks of 2023 there were 28 wide releases that grossed $2.6 billion.

An inquest heard scrapyard worker Jack Emmett was found with an unusually high level of the heart drug propranolol in his system after he collapsed and died. Lancashire’s Senior Coroner, Dr James Adeley said he could find no explanation, other than he helped himself to his partner’s supply of beta blocker tablets in the hope it would help him get a better night’s sleep, but overdosed.

An addict from Preston, who admitted the biggest regret of his life was turning to drugs, was found dead in a city centre car park with a syringe by his side, an inquest heard. Preston North End fan Iain Cross was discovered early one morning by a motorist parking on land at the rear of the former Tokyo Jo’s nightclub. Area Coroner Chris Long was told the 42-year-old joiner had a long history of illicit drug-taking and had told his family getting hooked was the biggest mistake of his life.

So sad to hear snooker commentator Clive Everton has passed away. Over my years as a young hack covering the UK Championships in Preston Clive was incredibly kind and supportive. Simply the best. RIP.
