The first came in 2004 and then the Scorpions didn’t go back until 2012 when head coach Drew Wyrick began his run. From 2012 to 2024, SHHS had gone to the big dance 11 times, including 10 in a row but hadn’t won a playoff round or even a playoff game.

Keller got 18 hits and scored 11 times in the third inning. Kaiya Fabela, Sydona Meiser and Mackenna Jackson all homered – and all three players have set personal records this season for the Indians. Fabela (BYU signee) also doubled and went 3 for 5 while driving in six runs.

Culwell just completed his fourth season with the Yellowjackets softball program and eighth overall as a head coach. During his career, Culwell has also been a head coach in football, track and powerlifting and assisting a several more. He’s also spent time with softball programs at FW North Side and Jacksonville.

Melissa improved to 29-0 and extended its winning streak to 44 games. The Cardinals won their first title last season and set the Texas state record with 92 home runs in 41 games. Well, that record dropped last week.

Sophomore pitcher Eloisa Maes allowed two walks and struck out nine in a complete game effort. The Cardinals improved to 29-0 on the season and will open the UIL playoffs this week with a 5A D1 bi-district match against Texarkana Texas High.
