    RURAL STREATOR – The Dwight softball team got off to a great start in Tuesday’s Tri-County Conference game against Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell in both teams’ final regular-season contest. The Trojans scored a pair of runs in the top of the first on a triple to right-center off the bat of junior Madi Ely, added single tallies in three of the next five innings, tacked on three runs in the seventh and eventually closed out an 8-5 victory. Dwight improved to 8-15 overall and 5-9 in TCC play.

    Marquette 4, Midland 0: At Masinelli Field in Ottawa, the Crusaders (25-3, 14-1) sewed up the Tri-County Conference championship with the win over the Timberwolves. Griffin Dobberstein fired a three-hit shutout, walking none and striking out 12 for Marquette, which scored three in the second and one in the third. Caden Durdan (double, two RBIs), Alec Novotney (RBI) and Grant Dose (double) provided the offense for the hosts.

    OTTAWA — The Ottawa baseball team fell behind early to Rochelle in Monday’s Interstate 8 Conference game. However, the Pirates turned a two-run deficit into a five-run lead with a seven-run third inning, added four runs over the next three innings and eventually secured a 13-9 triumph. “To be honest, this was an ugly played baseball game for us,” Ottawa coach Levi Ericson said. “Credit Rochelle, they don’t strike out a lot, they make you play defense, and they are scrappy.
