LA SALLE — As the sun began to set after over three hours and seven extra innings of thrilling softball at the L-P Sports Complex on Monday, La Salle-Peru’s Kelsey Frederick’s two-run single to right-center in the bottom of the 14th inning gave the Cavaliers an unbelievable 8-7 Interstate 8 Conference victory over rival Ottawa. “This was the type of game you can have when you have a rivalry like these two schools do,“ L-P coach Randy Huebbe said.

Marquette has put together another fantastic start this season, while Streator’s Isaiah Weibel, Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell’s Brezdyn Simons and Serena’s Beau Raikes have been key players for their respective teams. So far this season, after posting a 33-2 record and winning the Class 1A state championship a year ago, Marquette has continued its strong play and the numbers back it up.

Ottawa 10-13, Yorkville Christian 2-3: At Yorkville, the Pirates improved to 11-1 on the season with the doubleheader sweep of the Mustangs on Saturday. In the opener, Kilah Figenbaum and Adelynn Russell (RBI) each had two hits, Bobbi Snook tripled, and Piper Lewis drove in two runs. Russell (Win, 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 12 K) and Audrey Davis (2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) combined pitching efforts. In Game 2, Ottawa broke the game open with an eight-run fourth.
