Around 250 firefighters battled a raging Nassau County recycling plant fire Wednesday morning. The blaze began shortly after 2 a.m. at the Crown Recycling Facility in Calverton, according to News 12 Long Island. Riverhead Fire Chief Piotr Kurzyna told the outlet that teams from 35 departments worked to extinguish the flames that engulfed the building. The situation was declared “under control” at 11:20 a.m., after roughly nine hours of firefighting efforts, according to Riverhead Local.
