Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema has cancelled the national mourning programme of former President Edgar Lungu. The national mourning period, previously ran from June 8 to 14, and it was thereafter extended by nine days, from June 15 to 23. The extension came following a recent meeting between government officials and Lungu's family to resolve an impasse over his funeral programme. Lungu died in South Africa's capital Pretoria on June 5, 2025 aged 68.

The report ranks the different countries' militaries based on the number of uniformed personnel, their level of training, and air force capabilities, which include the number of fighter jets and aerial system. The other parameter that the armed forces are measured on is their defence capabilities on land.

Kenya's Inspector-General of Police Douglas Kanja has suspended several police officers attached to a station in the capital Nairobi after a suspect died in mysterious circumstances while in police custody. Albert Ojwang, who was arrested in the Western Kenya county of Homa Bay on Saturday, had been booked at the Central Police Station, and was declared dead a few hours later. Authorities alleged he had had made "false publication" about a high-ranking police officer.

Forty-five (45) African countries lost a total of €60 million — or $68 million — for their rejected Schengen visas in 2024, a TRT Afrika analysis of the 2024 State of Schengen Report reveals. That amount accounted for 41% of all the funds that Europe raised from Schengen visa rejections that year. Algeria, which had 529,000 Schengen visa applications, had the highest number of rejections in Africa, at 185,000.
