Arizona Athletics Our fans have spoken, and they think the Arizona Wildcats are going to finally get out of the regional round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Earlier this week SB Nation polled our readers on how far the UA (39-18) would go in the postseason. The Wildcats, who are coming off a second consecutive conference tournament title, are playing this weekend in the Eugene Regional with Oregon, Cal Poly and Utah Valley.

Arizona Athletics EUGENE, Ore.—When Arizona begins its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament under Chip Hale, and fifth overall, the starting pitcher will be representing the team he grew up watching. Same with the starting shortstop and No. 3 hitter, as well as the DH whose home run in the Big 12 championship game helped force extra innings. The Wildcats have a distinctly Tucson flavor to its current roster, a theme under Hale and much more so than in the decade before him.

Big 12 In joining a new conference this season, Arizona found itself playing at several ballparks it was unfamiliar with. The Wildcats’ first Big 12 road trip was to West Virginia’s Kendrick Family Ballpark, later visiting fields at BYU, Texas Tech and Houston that hadn’t previously been on the schedule. Each of those artificial turf surfaces took some getting used to, as did the outfield dimensions and stadium sightlines.
