How weird that we’re still talking about a two-year-old social media post from an ex-footballer. How bizarre that Gary Lineker is still making headlines for calling the anti-refugee rhetoric of then Home Secretary Suella Braverman “immeasurably cruel” and “using language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s”. IT’S that time of year when I get a dull pain in the heart as my mind drifts back to a dark place. On Tuesday, it will be 36 years since I walked through the opened Leppings Lane gate at Hillsborough and into Britain’s worst ever sporting disaster. Unlike 97 fellow football fans, I survived, and, being a journalist, was able to write, that night, a cathartic article unleashing my torment and anger.
