    Cory Beddick started eyeing a future in athletics and coaching while in high school some 20 years ago. For his graduation project, the 2006 Hempfield grad coached the 10U Mountville Cubs baseball team, something he continued while playing in college at Gettysburg. Now, following a successful career as a college baseball coach, Beddick has been named the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Alvernia University in Reading, the school announced Thursday.

The first baseman/outfielder has signed for his fourth season in Lancaster, the team announced. Carpenter, 25, has hit .291 with 31 home runs and 136 RBIs in 222 games with the Stormers. Last season, the right-handed hitter batted .286 with 14 homers and 65 RBIs in 103 games.
