    STARBASE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — With the next SpaceX launch scheduled for Tuesday, Boca Chica Beach will again be closed. That’s a public safety decision that Cameron County officials have traditionally been in charge of making. But changes to that process could be on the way. State lawmakers had proposed that the newly incorporated Starbase would have the authority to close the beach and nearby roadways when the city deemed it necessary.

    EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Edinburg CISD school board held a special meeting on Wednesday. The first item on the agenda considered sanctions and a possible suspension of Superintendent Mario Salinas. Board members decided to reprimand Salinas and place him on paid administrative leave for five days, beginning Thursday. Alondra Flores, parent of an ECISD student, spoke at the meeting in support of suspending Salinas. But said she’d like stronger action taken.

    HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Harlingen secured funding for two grants from the Texas Veterans Commission, estimated at $900,000. Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda and two city commissioners traveled to Austin to advocate for the funds. City leaders said they fear they wouldn’t have received funds if they hadn’t shown up in person. “We had one application not recommended for funding, and then we had the general assistance application low on the list,” Sepulveda said.
