Mr Burton (12A, 124 mins)Verdict: So-so biopic Rating:Richard Burton was born at home in Pontrhydyfen, near Port Talbot, and was buried under the world’s gaze in Celigny, near Geneva. That alone hints at the extraordinary path his life took between his birth a century ago this year and his death in 1984 at the age of 58.

Beloved 70s show The Good Life was one of the most enduringly popular of all British sitcoms, and was even adored by the late Queen Elizabeth. Cited even now as useful shorthand for suburban social-climbing types ('the new neighbours are a bit Margo-and-Jerry', it made its debut 50 years ago this week, not with a squeal but a squelch. The property used as the Goods' home was owned by Michael and Margaret Mullins in Kewferry Road, Northwood, Middlesex.

A Working Man (15, 116 mins)Verdict: Violent and formulaicRating:Jason Statham, in A Working Man, plays a sheepish antiquarian bookseller who has shied away from confrontation his whole life. Oh alright, that's a lie. I just wanted to see what it might look like on the page. In fact, he plays a hard-nut ex-commando who is persuaded out of retirement when some nasty people kidnap his employer's daughter.

The Alto Knights (15, 120 mins)Verdict: De Niro doubledRating:Sometimes a film comes with a pedigree you can't ignore. The Alto Knights, directed by Barry Levinson, written by Nick Pileggi and starring Robert De Niro, is such a film. Levinson, now 82, has a formidable and eclectic list of credits, including The Natural (1984), Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), Rain Man (1988), Bugsy (1991) and Wag The Dog (1997). Pileggi adapted Goodfellas (1990) and Casino (1995) from his own non-fiction books.

And what a match! Two teams of 16 battling over 2 days, and all coming down to the last putt on the last green. Hope the Masters is as exciting!

Moyes hasn’t made EFC much prettier on the eye but he’s sure as hell made us harder to beat. But for an offside goal we’d have taken points off the two top teams in the division, inside three days. That’s seriously impressive when you consider the wretched state we were in 💙
