On Wednesday night, the UC men’s basketball team traveled to Boulder to face the Colorado Buffaloes at Coors Events Center. The Bearcats needed a win, having lost their last four games, while Colorado was also seeking a victory after a loss against West Virginia. Both teams battled hard, but in the end,Cincinnati secured the win with a 68-62 final score.

After taking a tough loss to the Baylor Bears this week, the Bearcats needed a win to make a comeback. On Saturday, the Cincinnati Bearcat welcomed the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas was coming off two back-to-back wins, so a victory Cincinnati would solidify their third in a row. Unfortunately, Cincinnati would take their third loss in a row against Kansas. The Bearcats continue to show they can compete in the Big 12, but there is still room for improvement.

The Big 12 conference is regarded as one of the toughest in college basketball, featuring numerous teams that display talent and toughness. Cincinnati has already suffered two straight losses within the conference. On January 7th, the Red and Black hit the road to take on the Baylor Bears. Both teams needed this win, as Baylor was coming off a 74-55 loss at Iowa State. While there were some positives to Cincinnati’s performance, the game also highlighted some areas of improvement.

On Sunday afternoon, the University of Cincinnati men’s basketball hosted the Howard Bisons in Fifth Third Arena. Both teams put up a fight, but in the end, the Bearcats secured their seventh win of the season. The two teams met last year at Howard, with the Bearcats took home the win in overtime at Howard 86-81. Winning the tip tipoff, Cincinnati jumped to an early lead after Jizzle James laid it around the rim to get the first two for the Bearcats.

On Friday night, the Lady Bearcats hosted the Western Illinois (WIU) Leathernecks in Fifth Third Arena. Both teams fought to the finish, but in the end, the Bearcats secured the win by 43 points, 95-52. The starting five for the Bearcats were Tineya Hylton, Reagan Jackson, A’riel Jackson, Jillian Hayes and Alliance Ndiba. Cincinnati won the tip and were off and running. Scoring two baskets off back-to-back steals.

Jillian Hayes had an outstanding performance, recording her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 26 points, and 10 rebounds.
