President Trump signed an executive order to dismantle and eliminate the Department of Education. The president’s attempt to scale back and eliminate the department will cause irreparable harm, shuttering education programs that help students of all ages that need it the most—like needier school districts and children with disabilities, from kindergarten to college.

On March 20, President Trump signed an executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. The directive will require an act of Congress to officially eliminate the cabinet-level agency, and it is not clear whether the president has the votes in Congress to do so. This comes on the heels of the Trump administration’s cuts to the agency’s workforce by nearly 50% (1,300 people were fired after 600 decided to resign).

The American Indigenous Business Leaders (AIBL) chapter at Navajo Technical University (NTU) achieved first place in the chapter of the year, tribal college category. This exciting accomplishment occurred during AIBL’s National Business and Leadership Student Conference at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The NTU AIBL Club comprised three advisors and five attending students.

“He pulls the phone away, and you listen as he dry heaves. When his voice floats back, he sounds like a dream that has already slipped through your fingers.” This year the change in season showed up for me as a harsh reminder of the passing of time, which is scary when living with a dad with stage four cancer.

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) expresses great sorrow at the passing of longtime tribal college leader Ron His Horse Is Thunder on March 27, 2025. A descendant of Sitting Bull, His Horse Is Thunder (Hunkpapa Lakota) was an educator, lawyer, activist, and advocate for Native American rights and culture. He attended Standing Rock Community College (now Sitting Bull College) and went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree at the University of South Dakota School of Law.

Peterson, director of libraries and associate professor of humanities, whose extensive career in library sciences, academia, and research has left a lasting impact on the institution and beyond. Dr. Peterson has been an integral part of Diné College for 13 years, including seven months of service as associate dean of academics.
