A day that was originally celebrated as a pagan festival in Rome, and then in order to Christianize the day, St. Valentine declared the day in the middle of February as a Festival of Fertility. Which has now evolved into a day of love. Oh, and sometimes there are gifts. As a college student, it might not fit in the budget to buy an expensive, showy gift.
