Upcoming tariffs are affecting the recycled plastics market as PET imports see a pre-buying surge ahead of the July 8 deadline, reporter Bridget Janis said. Certain recycled materials, like flake and pellets, are exempt from tariffs, but recycled HDPE will still be subject to a 10 percent tariff. Janis also notes that seasonal demand is influencing the market with increased recycled PET use for beverages and recycled HDPE for spring construction.

According to market sources in discussion with Plastics News, prices for clear post-consumer PET pellets have decreased by 4 cents and green post-consumer pellets fell by 2 cents.
