    In November 2015, student protesters from the Black Justice League (BJL) occupied the office of University President Christopher Eisgruber ’83 during his office hours, commencing a 33-hour sit-in. The students came prepared with a list of demands, which included mandated cultural competency training for faculty and staff, an ethnicity and diversity distribution requirement, and the removal of the name of Woodrow Wilson Class of 1879 from the then-named Wilson School and College.

The University administration will maintain the current policy of institutional restraint although Eisgruber expressed plans to issue statements “less frequently.” Under institutional neutrality, universities do not take positions on social and political issues.

    The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) charged Nader Al-Naji ’14, the founder of crypto social media platform BitClout, with wire fraud and the sale of unregistered offerings of crypto asset securities on July 30. BitClout, advertised as a decentralized social media platform and “The First Crypto Social Network,” was launched in 2021. The platform functioned as a token-based marketplace for shares in a celebrity’s popularity.
