CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Fire agencies from across Southern Oregon and Northern California gathered for a conference at the Jackson County Expo. Experts were able to share a preview of what's expected from this fire season and discuss new technologies. This conference also provides an opportunity for each agency to meet one another and connect before a fire breaks out.

CALIFORNIA – The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is moving their Wolf Conservation Plan into Phase 2. As outlined in the 2016 Wolf conservation plan, Phase 2 can be achieved when there are at least 5 breeding pairs made up of at least 2 adults that have pups that survive for two years. As of 2024, 5 of the 7 California wolf packs qualify as a breeding pair, but there are 4 other areas of known wolf activity.

MEDFORD, Ore. – In 2002, Rob Brown selected his senior project to be on charitable giving. He chose to focus on Sparrow Clubs, a non-profit organization that supports children with medical needs. Sparrow Clubs had infrastructure in place to create programs at schools to sponsor and support Sparrows. Brown sponsored a baby boy named Tanner Ulrey, who had a rare form of cancer.

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. – The leadership class at Scenic Middle School took on a physical challenge to support their Sparrow, Everleigh. These students work each semester to donate 300 hours of their time volunteering to get money to put toward their Sparrow’s medical expenses. Many of these students have created a bond with Everleigh, viewing her as one of their own younger siblings. “ I love her,” said Cienna, a seventh-grade student.
