Dana Point city staff can now greenlight short-term rental permits without waiting for city council approval, while council members are also pushing forward efforts to crack down on unpermitted rentals. Short-term rentals – commonly known as Airbnbs – provide Transient Occupancy Tax revenue to cities. The tax, also known as a bed tax, is charged when visitors spend the night at a hotel or short-term rental.

Dana Point is expected to add a Marines memorial in Heritage Park to honor those who served and recognize the city’s connection to the 5th Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton. Proposed by the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group, the project will center around a bronze statue of a Marine being welcomed home by family members. Surrounding elements are slated to include a granite wall, two concrete benches and inscribed pavers.

Credit: JESSICA RUIZ, Voice of OC Two new pickleball courts are set to be added to Dana Point’s Del Obispo Park, among a slew of other renovations, as residents across Orange County advocate for additional court space for the sport. Council members approved an agreement with a design firm to work on plans for the park in a 3-0 vote during a meeting last month.
