Golf course housing plans ‘lacking vision’

KINGSTON Council has drafted a submission to the state’s planning minister outlining serious concerns about development plans at the former Kingswood golf site in Dingley Village. The site’s owner Satterley unveiled its development plans earlier this year. It plans to build 941 residential lots on the land. (“Controversial golf course plans revealed” The News 3/2/2025). In April, the state government informed Kingston Council that its planning authority over the site had been removed.

COMMUNITY grants set to be distributed by Kingston Council in the next three years have survived proposed cuts, but new conditions have been applied to their recipients. In February, Kingston Council resolved to review 10 festival and event community grants awarded by the previous council at their June 2024 meeting.

MEN’S DIV ONESORRENTO looked to get their season back on track last weekend on the road against Pines. The Sharks have endured a difficult 2025 season so far, languishing in the bottom half of the ladder. They conceded 22 goals to Frankston YCW in their last outing, and were looking to make amends against the Pythons. Athlete set for France challenge

A FRANKSTON athlete is set to take his talents to France to compete in the 2025 Ironman World Championships. 27-year-old Zach Andrewartha competed in New Zealand earlier this year, earning Gold All World Athlete status and a place at the world championships. He first began serious training for endurance sports less than six months earlier.
Police find alleged explosives

EXPLOSIVES and ammunition were allegedly found last week as part of an investigation into motor vehicle thefts in Frankston. Victoria Police Frankston Crime Investigation Unit detectives raided a home in Cranbourne on Wednesday, 28 May. Police allege they uncovered approximately 15 kilograms of explosives, more than 40 kilograms of chemicals used in the manufacturing of explosives, and more than 60 detonation devices. The police bomb response unit was called in to make the scene safe.
Multi-storey station car park open

THE new car park at Kananook Railway Station officially opened last week. The federal government spent $22 million to build the car park on Frankston Council-owned land. It features more than 300 car spaces, including dedicated bicycle parking. The multi-level car park is directly opposite the Kananook Railway Station and Frankston Stadium.

Abuse survivor calls for change

A CHILD sexual abuse survivor is calling for new laws to hold organisations to account for abuse that occurs under their watch. Frankston resident Brian Cherrie was sexually abused as a child living at the Salvation Army children’s home in Box Hill in the early 1960s. He said he has suffered lifelong effects from the abuse, which occurred when he was just 11-years-old, and is now dedicated to helping other victims. “I’m a forgotten Australian abused in a children’s home,” Cherrie said.
