Centralia Police arrested 40-year-old Kyle Roe of South Cherry in Centralia for disorderly conduct. He was brought to the Marion County Jail. Two others remain in the Marion County Jail following Saturday arrests on no-bond warrants. 25-year-old Lauren Biegeleisen of West 14th in Sandoval was arrested by Wamac Police on a Marion County misdemeanor failure to appear warrant. 35-year-old Aaron Hubbard of East Gragg in Centralia was arrested by Centralia Police on a felony failure to appear warrant.

Salem Police arrested 26-year-old Jeremiah Meyer of Meachum Road in Kinmundy for felony criminal damage to property after he allegedly threw a landscape brick into one of the large plate glass windows at Toss and Suds Laundromat on West Main Street. The owner had video of the incident. Police arrested Meyer about two blocks after he had on clothing that matched the suspect in the video. Meyer was taken to the Marion County Jail.
Indiana Governor Now Has Bill for Study of Annexation of Illinois Counties

The Indiana Senate has joined the Illinois House in passing a bill to create the ‘Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission’ that would study bringing 33 rural Illinois counties into the state that have voted to secede to get away from the political influence of Chicago. The bill now goes to Indiana Governor Mike Braun to be signed into law. However, it doesn’t appear the bill will go much further because the commission requires Illinois representatives.

Severe storms cross Marion County, causing heaviest damage in Salem and northeast Marion County

Damage is reported in both Salem and northeast Marion County from a fast-moving severe thunderstorm early Saturday morning that may have produced a tornado. In Salem, the tornado siren behind Taco Bell on West Main fell to the ground. Southeast of Kinmundy, the 3 C Rodeo on the Kinmundy Road received extensive damage to a barn as well as the rodeo area. Trees and tree limbs were brought down throughout the area, sometimes bringing power lines with them and resulting in power outages.

Salem Lions Club has cancelled the Easter Egg Hunt in Bryan Memorial Park on Sunday due to wet conditions and more rain in the forecast. It will be rescheduled at a later date. Salem Country Club fundraiser tournament is canceled, but we will be offering a pulled pork dinner starting at 5, to-go boxes also offered. Non-participants can get a meal for a $10 donation! The tournament will be rescheduled for May 24th.

Donald Alfred Rogers of Mt. Vernon passed away at 7:08 a.m. on Thursday, April 17th in Mt Vernon, IL. Don was born on February 28th, 1941, and was 84 years old. He was born to Alfred and Helen Rogers (Foley) in Mt. Vernon. Don attended Mt Vernon High School before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served four years before he was honorably discharged. Don married Joyce June Howell on July 25th, 1959, in Mt Vernon when he was 18 and she was 16.

Donald Wayne Hamilton, 91, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Shady Shores, Texas. Donald was born in Ottawa, Kansas, on October 11, 1933, the son of Evard and Dora (Hopkins) Hamilton. On July 9, 1957, he married Shirley Ruth Estell, from Joliet, and she survives in Shady Shores. Donald graduated from Reavis High School, in Burbank, Illinois, in 1952, and lived in Chicago, Illinois, prior to joining the United States Navy, where he served as a radio repairman from 1953 until 1957.
