Purple reigned across the Delco Center this weekend as both the Pieper Warriors boys' and girls' teams captured District 13-5A championships at the Austin athletic facility. Girls' district coach of the year Sam Arrieta and girls district wrestler of year Cameron Massie led the way for the purple mascot Warriors. Tournament officials awarded both yesterday based on district coaches voting.

The Churchill High School boys and Pieper High School girls captured the top spots Saturday at the inaugural "Brawl on the Stahl" wrestling tournament. The "brawl" references to Stahl Road, which runs in front of host school Madison High School. The tournament featured 15 boys teams and 16 girls teams, 10 in both the boys and girls from the San Antonio area, with many of them among the area's best.

Two San Antonio-area high school wrestling teams fared well at the 2024 UIL State Championship this weekend in Cypress. The Smithson Valley boys team finished fourth, led by a gold medal performance by senior Efren "Junior" Arizmendez in the 165 pound weight class. Teammates senior 132-pounder Tristan Luna and senior 190- pounder Nicholas Dudzikowski both took home second-place finishes. Sophomore 138 pounder Bryce Palmer finished fifth.
