The NCAA basketball tournament mantra is “survive and advance.”The LSU baseball team followed that slogan in the championship game of the Baton Rouge Regional on Monday night at The Box. Just two innings into the winner-take-all final game, No. 4 seed Little Rock had a four-run lead over the Tigers. One of the most disappointing defeats in its postseason history was staring LSU in the collective faces.

Throw out the numbers when it comes to baseball. LSU learned that fact Sunday night at The Box. Little Rock, whose record fell to nine games below .500 after dropping its Baton Rouge Regional opener to the Tigers, is now one victory away from a NCAA super-regional series. The Trojans stunned a 45-win LSU team with a 10-4 victory in the championship round of the regional tournament. So, Little Rock and the Tigers will meet in a winner-take-all game Monday at 8 p.m. Central.

The pitching matchup was totally in LSU’s favor for the winners’ bracket finals of the Baton Rouge Regional on Saturday night. Dallas Baptist was starting Micah Bucknam, who left the LSU program after two seasons because he simply was not going to be a part of its pitching rotation.

Friday was a long day at the park for both the LSU and Little Rock baseball teams. Even though very little rain fell at The Box, the start of the Baton Rouge Regional opener was delayed 5½ hours. Understand the Tigers have become quite accustomed to this situation during the 2025 season. LSU waited out the delay and then went out put together a rather business-like 7-0 victory over the Trojans.

The NCAA Baseball Committee assigned no power conference teams to LSU’s regional tournament which begins Friday afternoon at The Box. Such a scenario usually exists for the Tigers since the super-regional series format was adopted in 1999. Rarely has LSU met a power conference team in the finals of the regional tournament. Minnesota (2009) and Oregon State (2012, 2023) are the only power conference teams who lost to the Tigers in the championship round.
