Brett Laxton may now have to at least share ownership of LSU’s best pitching performance in the College World Series. The Tigers won the 1993 national title with a 16-strikeout, 3-hit shutout from Laxton against Wichita State. That outing was the one judged against by all LSU pitchers in CWS games. Well, Kade Anderson may have matched what Laxton did more than 30 years ago Saturday night in the first game of the College World Series finals.

Yes, everyone knows all the impressive accomplishments of the Coastal Carolina baseball program. The 2025 Chanticleers team is on a 26-game winning streak. In 2016, Coastal Carolina swept two games from LSU in the super-regional series at The Box. Jared Jones has certainly experienced the highs and lows in LSU’s three games at the College World Series. There was Jones’ five-strikeout night against Arkansas in the tournament opener. Then, there was his three-run homer which sparked the Tigers’ comeback against UCLA in the bracket driver’s seat game. With LSU one victory away from reaching the CWS finals Wednesday night, Jones was once again in the middle of a wild last two innings against the Razorbacks.

LSU had UCLA right where it wanted following the bad weather which hit Omaha on Monday night. The winners’ bracket game between the Tigers and Bruins ended up being impacted by rain. LSU has been outstanding in weather-delayed games this season. Yes, the Tigers did lose starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson after just three innings. However, LSU had a two-run lead when the game restarted Tuesday morning to go along with its players’ experience in an abnormal situation.
