A police officer was injured after apprehending a suspected thief inside a Burlington department store on Saturday. The Enfield Police Department says on Saturday afternoon, officers were called for a reported larceny in progress at the store. When police confronted the suspect, they say he resisted the officers, resulting in minor injuries for one of the officers. After arresting the individual, police say 261 items were recovered.

A statement from Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo on Friday confirmed the passing of the zoo's 14-year-old red panda, Berry. Zoo officials say the panda passed away following a medical procedure. The statement explained Berry was slow to recover from anesthesia and did not survive. According to the Beardsley Zoo, red pandas are critically endangered in the wild, and typically only live 8-10 years. Berry, who lived 14 years, was a female red panda who had lived at the zoo since early 2021.

Police in Branford say one of their officers interrupted a theft in progress at a convinience store on Sunday. It was at the Evan's Mobil on North Main Street where Brandford Police say a group of people attempted to steal an ATM - the full machine - from inside the store. An officer on patrol interrupted the theft, then attempted to drive after the suspect when they fled in a stolen vehicle, according to police. The pursuit was called off due to high speeds.

New preliminary statistics from Connecticut State Police were released on Thursday. According to troopers, they responded to zero fatal crashes during their patrols on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The new stats include responses from the start of Dec. 23 through the end of Dec. 25. State police say they had more than 1,600 calls for service, including 168 traffic stops, 15 DUI stops, and 150 motor vehicle crashes.

A 32-year-old man was arrested following an armed robbery in Newington, according to the town's police department. According to Newington PD, employees of the Cumberland Farms convenience store on Cedar Street reported the robbery just before 8:00 p.m. on Christmas Day. Employees told police the man was armed with a knife and fled the store on foot. With help from Newington K9 Ray, officers say they were able to track the man from the convenience store to the CTfastrak bus stop.

On Thursday, state police say a recording has been circulating from a 'Civil Services Division' and a 'Lieutenant James Perry.'That division does not exist, and troopers say that person is not a member of their ranks.
