As the girls high school soccer season reaches the stretch run, here's a look at the top Greensboro-area teams. Teams are listed alphabetically. Records as of Monday. Bishop McGuinness (12-2, 7-0 Northwest Piedmont 1A): The Lady Villains, who reached the NCHSAA 1A third round last year, have a team-high 16 goals from freshman Kristen Dixon-Velez, while senior Anna Aufrance has 11 goals and 11 assists and sophomore Olivia Miller has 10 goals.

Grimsley High School football is opening the 2025 season against another 2024 state champion in Charlotte at the Carolina Panthers' Bank of America Stadium as part of the Keep Pounding High School Classic presented by Belk. The Panthers organization announced in a media release on Monday that last year's NCHSAA 4A state champion Grimsley is set to face last year's 3A state champion West Charlotte High School on Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. in the NFL stadium.

North Carolina A&T football's Shawn Gibbs made his Blue & Gold Spring Game head coaching debut on Saturday at Truist Stadium without his top three quarterbacks, leaving the offense to struggle during the scrimmage. Not a traditional split-squad matchup, the offense wore gold jerseys and the defense wore blue in the hour-long scrimmage that featured controlled possession-start ball placement, no tackling of quarterbacks and no game clock.
