A Kruger National Park hut attendant's bravery has been honoured. This was after he risked his life to save a guest who was attacked by a hyena in the park. Sipho Lubisi (26) was among the over 120 people who were honoured for their outstanding performance during the 19th Kruger National Park achievement awards ceremony on Friday night, 1 November. The brave man was sitting with his colleagues one evening in February 2024 when he heard people screaming for help in Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp.

THOMAS Ngomane was walking home when a corrugated iron sheet, blown away from a nearby school, hit him during a hailstorm that wreaked havoc in his area on Sunday, 27 October. The 52-year-old man from Rolle Village in Bushbuckridge is among the four people confirmed dead in Mpumalanga after a thunderstorm hit parts of the province since Sunday. Three municipalities in the Ehlanzeni District, Nkomazi, Mbombela, and Bushbuckridge are affected, with more than 500 houses and 50 schools damaged.

THREE municipalities in Mpumalanga hit hard by a severe storm. The storm left hundreds of families devastated on Sunday, 27 October. At least, 12 villages in Nkomazi were severely affected, followed by the Bushbuckridge and Mbombela municipalities. Roofs of houses and schools were blown off, and in some areas, walls collapsed. At least, two people were seriously injured and are receiving medical treatment in various hospitals.

A 33-YEAR-OLD suspect has been arrested following the discovery of a body. An alleged sex worker's body was found buried in a shallow grave covered with stones in Belfast, Mpumalanga, on Wednesday, 23 October. The suspect handed himself over to the police following allegations that he brutally murdered the victim on Friday, 18 October.

THE VICTIM and her family have an evil agenda against me. A 46-year-old pastor told the Sabie Magistrates Court on Thursday, 24 October during his formal bail application. The pastor has been charged with the alleged rape of a teenage girl. He told the court through his affidavit, read by his lawyer, Reuben Mokoena, that the 16-year-old girl sent him a message on 2 October saying she would pass by his place.

OVER 24 pupils from Enzani Primary School in Matsulu, outside Mbombela, Mpumalanga, are receiving medical attention at Rob Ferreira Hospital. They allegedly consumed food bought from a local spaza shop in the area. According to Department of Education spokesman, Gerald Sambo, the pupils were complaining about abdominal pains and some started vomiting. He said the cause of the illness is not clear at the moment; however, it is alleged that the affected pupils bought snacks from a local shop.

"HE MISSES his hands." These were the words of Johannes Mahlangu, whose son had both his hands chopped off, allegedly by a Mpumalanga pastor, his wife, and their son. Johannes said this following the appearance of the trio in the Witbank Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 October. Solomon Mhlanga, Poppy Mhlanga, and Enoch Mhlanga are facing charges of attempted murder and kidnapping. They are out on R5 000 bail each. Their case was postponed to 25 March 2025 for trial.

THE families of the three Lily Mine workers who remain buried underground are still camping outside the mine's premises. On Sunday, 20 October, it will be exactly 2 000 days since the families have been camping there. On 30 April 2019, the Nkambule, Nyirenda, and Mnisi families decided to erect a tent 1 000 metres away from the main gate of the mine where Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyirenda, and Yvonne Mnisi were last seen on 5 February 2016.

He told the Mbombela High Court on Wednesday, 16 October. He was testifying about the alleged confession statement he made and the pointing out he did on 12 October 2022 following his arrest. Nyalunga told the court that on the day in question, he was called by the police to come to the Nelspruit Police Station.
