    It was around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 when the sound of semiautomatic rifle fire was heard by many in west Searcy. I know it was heard by many, because I called 911 and heard background chatter of dispatchers taking other calls and directing officers to the possible origin of the shots. And, as a veteran who spent hours staring through the sights of the M16 rifle and its many variants, I can tell you with 99-percent certainty that it was not fireworks.
