NEW YORK - Thursday was fan appreciation night at Barclays Center. They didn't have much to cheer about. The young, short-handed Nets struggled to keep up with the Atlanta Hawks from start to finish, losing 133-109 in a game in which they never led and trailed by as many as 32 points.

Jalen Wilson paced the Nets with 20 points off the bench, and Drew Timmie added 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in his seventh career game, becoming the only rookie in the NBA this season to post a 10/10/5 game as a reserve.

D’Angelo Russell is one of six free agents the Nets must decide on this summer. Believe it or not, the veteran floor general has never tested the open market — not really. After his first stint with Brooklyn in 2019, Russell was signed and traded to the Golden State Warriors in a deal that sent Kevin Durant to the Nets. In 2023, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded Russell back to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he inked a two-year, $36 million contract.

Sounds like Cam Johnson, D'Angelo Russell and Day'Ron Sharpe will miss the Nets' final two regular-season games. Jordi Fernandez said the trio will not travel to Minnesota and there have been no internal discussions about them playing.
