A total of 61 scouts representing all 30 MLB teams were at the University of Florida's Perry Field for the showdown between the Gators' Brady Singer and Auburn University's Casey Mize in April 2018. Mize was the consensus No. 1 prospect in that year's draft and Singer was expected to go in the top 10. Among those in attendance were Dick Williams and Chris Buckley, the two members of the Cincinnati Reds' front office who would decide which player the team would take with the fifth pick that year.

CINCINNATI - Like the rest of the Cincinnati Reds, Hunter Greene's night looked like it was going great until suddenly it wasn't on Friday against the Chicago Cubs. And, well, Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong played a large role in Greene's short night and the Reds' 13-6 series-opening loss. Crow-Armstrong hit two home runs, a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a go-ahead grand slam in the Cubs' six-run seventh inning, as the Reds blew a pair of four-run leads.

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Rhett Lowder's rehab assignment has been paused after an MRI showed a left oblique strain following his shortened outing Thursday night for Triple-A Louisville. Lowder, 23, dealt with elbow soreness in spring training and was making his fourth rehab start when he left Thursday night's game after just one pitch in the second inning.
