    Despite last night’s events, Mecha protests continue for a second evening demanding the University of Utah cut ties with Israel. This second protest started in President’s Circle when protesters began to occupy the stairs and lawn in front of the Park Building. Earlier today, President Taylor Randall released a statement regarding the protesting. At approximately 6 p.m. at President’s Circle, a Mecha member was arrested. This sparked the start of chants and speeches from Mecha organizers.

    On Monday, a familiar scene of protesters rallying against a conservative commentator hosted by Young America for Freedom at Utah unfolded at the College of Social Work building at the University of Utah. “Hey hey, ho ho, transphobia has got to go!” Protesters chanted outside the event, while hundreds of people waited for a chance to be seated in the auditorium.

    University of Utah gymnast Kara Eaker has announced her retirement from U gymnastics as well as from the sport as a whole, citing “verbal and emotional abuse” from an unnamed male head coach. She is also withdrawing as a student from the U. “For two years, while training with the Utah Gymnastics Team, I was a victim of verbal and emotional abuse,” her announcement reads.

    In Gov. Spencer Cox’s October monthly press conference, he had strong words regarding a new Utah law requiring social media sites to verify that users are above the age of 18. “These social media companies are making billions of dollars off of killing our kids,” he said. Cox added that he does not think the restrictions are difficult to achieve despite concerns, and that Utah will not be the only state doing this. “This is the most bipartisan issue I’ve worked on in a long, long time,” Cox said.

    About 40 people gathered on the fourth floor of the A. Ray Olpin Union Building Wednesday night to mourn the lives lost in Israel this month. The vigil was hosted by Jewish groups Hillel for Utah and Chabad on Campus. Earlier this month, the Palestinian Islamic political party, Hamas, launched an attack on Israel, leaving over 1,200 people dead and over 2,800 wounded.
