I apologize too much. You could bring me the wrong food order, or say something to me I can’t hear, or even step on my foot in the grocery store and you’ll prompt one. “I’m so sorry,” I’ll say to you—and to an inanimate stack of boxes I’ve simultaneously bumped. Until recently I saw my “sorry” habit as a harmless manifestation of Midwestern manners gone amok. But the first sign that it’s starting to become a problem? I apologize too much for not being better on my bike.

Trevor Raab“When did you first realize you weren’t a beginner anymore?” It’s a question I posed to my coworkers at Bicycling, many of whom have been riding and racing for multiple decades, at elite levels, across staggering distances, possibly uphill both ways in the snow. I expected my inbox to be flooded with inspiring anecdotes; tales of triumph and woe; or at the very least, smug hot takes on when it’s OK to start caring about insider stuff like embro and VO2 Max.

Big thanks to @Longreads for including this story in their weekly top five! I was stoked to read their description. #longreadstop5

"Giddings relays her time as a tour guide with candor, and with just a few words manages to paint a visceral picture of dirty, sweaty trail life, and leave you giggling at the characters sharing it." At #5, @caitlingiddings offers a fun , witty🚲 read: https://t.co/7wXBjD72n1

RT @Longreads: "Now we were engaged in the world’s slowest chase scene with a middle-aged psychopath in high-vis spandex." @caitlingiddings…

Pregnancy is hard but I can't rave enough about the rare experience of being pregnant with a partner who already has. It's so nice to have someone on hand to field questions, validate how much it sucks, and explain that the baby is just hiccuping and not pulsating out a red alert
