Cabaret will end its New York run Oct. 19 after about 14 months on Broadway. The closing notice comes after the production undertook a large-scale remodeling of the August Wilson Theatre and has mounted a costly, immersive production, with reports of the show being capitalized for up to $24 million. With the early closing notice, and bumpy grosses throughout its run, the show will likely exit Broadway without recouping.

Jinkx Monsoon will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! starting in August. Monsoon, known from RuPaul’s Drag Race, takes over the role starting Aug. 4 for an eight-week engagement through Sept. 27. Before Monsoon’s run, Tituss Burgess will play Mary Todd Lincoln from June 23 through Aug. 2. The role was originated by Cole Escola, who also wrote the play and is currently starring in the Broadway production.

In a memo to employees extolling Amazon’s use of generative AI, CEO Andy Jassy also briefly noted that it may lead to a reduction in the company’s workforce. “As we roll out more Generative AI and agents, it should change the way our work is done. We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs.
